Mikel Arteta Eases Fears Over Bukayo Saka Injury After Port Vale Win

Bukayo Saka criticism

Mikel Arteta calms injury fears and confirms Bukayo Saka will start against Newcastle after Port Vale win.

Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka did not sustain a new injury scare during Arsenal’s Carabao Cup victory over Port Vale, which will calm Arsenal supporters fears.

Saka had missed three matches with a hamstring problem picked up against Leeds United earlier this season. He made a brief comeback in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City before starting against Port Vale—a decision that raised concerns given his recent fitness issues.

In the second half, Saka went down following a strong challenge that left him limping. The sight worried supporters, especially with injuries already affecting players like Kai Havertz and Noni Madueke.

Arteta Explains Saka Substitution

Speaking after the match, Arteta reassured fans that Saka’s 63rd-minute substitution was part of a pre-planned strategy.

“It was always the plan,” Arteta said. “The maximum we wanted him to play was 60 minutes. He is coming back from an important injury, and we need to manage his load.”

The Arsenal boss confirmed that Saka is expected to feature in the upcoming Premier League clash with Newcastle United. “He will be around for the weekend, yes,” Arteta stated, easing fears of another setback.

Squad Depth on Display

Despite nine changes to the starting lineup, Arsenal earned a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Eberechi Eze and Leandro Trossard. The match also saw the debut of 15-year-old Max Dowman, who replaced Saka, and a first outing for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Arteta praised his squad’s depth and adaptability, highlighting their ability to control the game even with heavy rotation.

With Saka’s minutes carefully managed and Arsenal’s squad proving reliable, the Gunners are well-placed to handle a busy schedule. The focus now shifts to Newcastle, where Arteta hopes to keep momentum while protecting his key players from further injuries.
