Mikel Arteta Confirms Piero Hincapie Injury Amid Madueke Setback

Adebayor Arsenal title struggle

Mikel Arteta confirms that £45m summer signing Piero Hincapie has suffered a groin injury ahead of the Carabao Cup clash.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed another injury concern in his squad, revealing that £45 million summer signing Piero Hincapie has sustained a groin problem. The news comes just days after winger Noni Madueke ruled out with a knee injury in the 1-1 Premier League draw against Manchester City.

The Gunners continue to struggle with injuries this season, with at least one player sidelined in each of their five Premier League fixtures.

Bukayo Saka and Ben White have recently returned to action, but key names such as Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus remain unavailable. Captain Martin Ødegaard is also recovering from a shoulder issue, though Arteta confirmed he has resumed light training and will not require surgery.

Piero Hincapie Injury Update

Hincapie, who joined on loan from Bayer Leverkusen with an option to buy for £45 million, initially expected to make his first start in Arsenal’s Carabao Cup clash against Port Vale.

Arteta confirmed the Ecuadorian defender has suffered a minor groin injury.

“He picked up a little groin injury. We have to assess him in the next few days. There’s been a change of load, and he didn’t have a proper pre-season after the injury. We’ll see in the next week how he responds, but it should be short-term,” Arteta said.

Madueke, who had impressed since his arrival from Chelsea, forced off at halftime against Manchester City. He is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

“He’s gutted, obviously. Very disappointing to see him because he was in such a good state. He looked a real threat,” Arteta explained.

Arteta on Arsenal’s Injury Problems

With multiple first-team players unavailable, Arteta admitted the club is reviewing its training and recovery methods but suggested that many of the setbacks are unfortunate coincidences:

“We looked at everything. Ødegaard hurt his shoulder twice in the same way, which is rare. Bukayo’s was a muscular issue. We’ll continue to investigate, but sometimes these things happen,” he said.

Arsenal now turn their focus to the Carabao Cup third-round tie against Port Vale, with Arteta carefully managing squad depth.

With Hincapie’s injury likely short-term and Ødegaard close to full fitness, the Gunners will hope for positive news to avoid further disruptions in a crucial run of fixtures.
