Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed both Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi will undergo scans after picking up muscular injury in the 2-0 win at Turf Moor.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed injury concerns for Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi following the club’s 2–0 Premier League victory over Burnley at Turf Moor. The win kept Arsenal firmly on top of the table, but the early withdrawals of two key players cast a shadow over an otherwise dominant performance.

Gyokeres, who opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a well-placed header from a corner, was sub off at halftime after feeling muscular discomfort. Arteta later explained that the decision was precautionary:

“Viktor felt something and we didn’t want to take any risks. It was one of his best performances for us.”

Midfielder Martin Zubimendi also signaled for a change midway through the second half, complaining of tightness. Arteta confirmed the Spaniard’s situation will be assessed alongside Gyokeres’, adding:

“Zubi asked to be subbed, so we have to wait for the medical team’s report.”

Arteta Praises Team Despite Setbacks

Despite losing two starters, Arsenal maintained control throughout the match. Declan Rice doubled the lead before halftime with another header, sealing a comfortable win built on defensive discipline and set-piece precision.

Arteta lauded his players’ focus and structure, saying:

“The first half was exceptional. We scored two goals and gave nothing away. Our defending was top level again.”

Injury Worries Ahead of Europe

The timing of these injuries is far from ideal, with Arsenal set to face Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday. Both Gyokeres and Zubimendi have been central to Arteta’s tactical setup—Gyokeres for his physicality and pressing, and Zubimendi for his control in midfield.

Arsenal fans will now anxiously await updates from the medical team, hoping both players recover quickly to maintain the team’s momentum across all competitions.
