Arteta outlines his plans for unbelievable Max Dowman as the 15-year-old midfield sensation edges closer to first-team action ahead of the Manchester United clash.
Manager Mikel Arteta has clarified the future of 15-year-old midfield sensation Max Dowman ahead of Arsenal’s crucial Premier League match against Manchester United, Arteta called the young player “unbelievable” and confirmed that he will be playing for the first team this season.
Dowman has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects from Arsenal’s Hale End academy. Despite his age, he has already made a significant impact:
20 goals and 10 assists in only 25 appearances for Arsenal U18s, has featured prominently during Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Asia, impressing against senior sides such as AC Milan and Newcastle, and has represented England at U17 level, showcasing his talent on the international stage.
His technical ability, composure, and vision have drawn comparisons to some of Arsenal’s finest midfielders.
Speaking ahead of the Manchester United clash, Arteta confirmed that Dowman will be integrated into the senior setup, though with careful management:

“He’s going to be in and around the team,” Arteta said. “We’re going to manage his development very carefully. He needs the right platform, the right timing, and the right environment to grow. We’re working closely with everyone involved to ensure that happens.”
While Dowman is eligible to play in domestic competitions, he will not be available for Champions League fixtures until he turns 16 later this year.
Veteran midfielder Mikel Merino also praised Dowman’s maturity and work ethic:
“Max is an unbelievable talent, but he’s still very young. He has a lot to learn, but his attitude is spot on. He listens, works hard, and has the right people around him. That’s crucial at a club like Arsenal.”
