Mikel Arteta Breaks Silence on Arsenal’s Transfer Plans After £64m Gyokeres Signing

Arteta confirms double blow

Mikel Arteta reveals Arsenal’s bold transfer plans following the signing of Gyokeres for £64 million, hints at more moves before the window closes.

Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta has finally spoken out about the club’s ambitious transfer plans following the high-profile acquisition of Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP for £64 million. The move, which ended a two-month negotiation saga, marks a pivotal moment in Arsenal’s summer rebuild and signals that the Gunners may not be done yet.

Gyokeres, who netted an astonishing 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting, was unveiled ahead of Arsenal’s pre-season clash with Newcastle. He’s been handed the iconic No.14 shirt, once worn by Thierry Henry, underscoring the club’s belief in his potential to lead the line.

Arteta expressed his excitement:

“Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers… We’re excited about what Viktor brings to our squad and are looking forward to start working with him”.

Gyokeres joins a growing list of summer signings that includes Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Christian Norgaard. Arsenal’s spending has already surpassed £200 million, making this one of the club’s most aggressive windows in recent history.

Arteta credited new sporting director Andrea Berta for the club’s efficiency:

“To identify talent is one thing; delivering is another. The club has done incredibly well. Andrea and his team have been fantastic”.

Despite the flurry of arrivals, Arteta hinted that Arsenal’s business may not be finished:

“Let’s see. The market is still going on and we’ll have to balance out the squad as well. I think we’ll be open to see what happens”.

Report suggests Arsenal are preparing a £60m bid for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, who is reportedly keen on a move to the Emirates. However, further signings may depend on player sales, with only £7m recouped so far from departures.

The futures of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard remain uncertain, and Arsenal may need to offload one of them to fund additional moves. Arteta emphasized the importance of squad balance and hinted at possible outgoings to accommodate new arrivals.
