Arsenal saw their three-game winning streak in the Premier League come to an end as they were forced to settle for a point at Brighton.
Brighton & Hove Albion held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in a hard-fought Premier League encounter at the American Express Community Stadium on Saturday. The result means Arsenal’s unbeaten league run stretches to 10 matches, but they missed the chance to cut the gap to league leaders Liverpool by the maximum amount.
Ethan Nwaneri opened the scoring for Arsenal with a fantastic finish just 16 minutes into his second Premier League start. The 17-year-old broke down the right and confidently drilled a low shot past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. This goal made Nwaneri the first player to score more than one Premier League goal for Arsenal before turning 18.
Brighton struggled to create scoring chances in the first half but improved significantly in the second half. Joao Pedro equalized for Brighton with a penalty in the 61st minute after a contentious decision when William Saliba clashed heads with Pedro in the air. Pedro confidently converted the penalty, sending Raya the wrong way from 12 yards.
Despite Arsenal’s dominance in the first half, Brighton’s resilience and improved performance in the second half earned them a valuable point. The draw leaves Arsenal second in the table on 40 points, five behind leaders Liverpool.
