Bukayo Saka’s early strike seals 1-0 win at Brighton as Arsenal extend Premier League lead to seven points.

Bukayo Saka’s early goal proved decisive as Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League with eight games remaining.

In a tense and physical contest on the south coast, the Gunners showed resilience and maturity to protect their slender advantage and take another major step in the title race.

Arsenal began sharply despite the absence of injured centre-back William Saliba.

The breakthrough arrived in the ninth minute and fittingly came from Saka, who was making his 300th first-team appearance for the club. Jurrien Timber found the winger on the right, and Saka cut inside before firing toward goal. A deflection off Carlos Baleba wrong-footed goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, with the ball slipping through his legs and into the net.

It was Saka’s 79th goal for Arsenal — and one that could carry significant weight in the title run-in.

Early Scare at the Back

The visitors had survived a major warning just moments earlier.

A loose pass from David Raya was intercepted by Baleba, who lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper. With the net seemingly exposed, Gabriel Magalhães produced a superb goal-line header to preserve parity.

That moment proved crucial.

Roared on by a lively home crowd, Brighton responded strongly and controlled much of the possession, finishing with 57% compared to Arsenal’s 43%.

Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter both threatened, while Yankuba Minteh — introduced at half-time — injected additional energy into the Seagulls’ attack.

Arsenal, however, defended resolutely. Gabriel was commanding at the back, while Cristhian Mosquera impressed alongside him in Saliba’s absence.

Seeking greater control after the interval, Mikel Arteta introduced Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard just before the hour mark.

The changes nearly paid off immediately, but Trossard dragged a shot wide after a clever cut-back from Timber. Havertz also tested Verbruggen with a low drive that the Brighton goalkeeper did well to parry.

At the other end, Raya was called into action to deny Rutter, though he appeared to sustain a minor shoulder knock in the process.

As the match grew increasingly scrappy, Arsenal demonstrated the game management of champions.

Riccardo Calafiori replaced Mosquera, who had been booked, to add defensive security. Seven minutes of stoppage time were indicated, but the Gunners remained disciplined and composed to see out a vital three points.

Title Momentum Builds

Brighton will feel they deserved more from their second-half dominance, but Arsenal’s defensive resolve and clinical finishing ultimately made the difference.

With just eight matches remaining, Arteta’s side now hold a seven-point cushion at the summit. The margin is slender enough to demand focus — but significant enough to increase belief.

The race is far from over.

But Arsenal remain firmly in control.
