Arsenal secured a resounding 5-0 victory over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, boosting their faint Women’s Super League title hopes.
Arsenal Women delivered a commanding performance in the Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) north London derby, defeating Tottenham Hotspur Women 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
Arsenal took the lead in the 14th minute when Alessia Russo’s glancing header deflected off Clare Hunt, resulting in an own goal. Mariona Caldentey doubled the lead just before the break with a composed finish from the edge of the box. Frida Maanum extended Arsenal’s lead with a deflected effort in the 51st minute. Russo added her second of the match with a clinical strike from the right side of the box in the 58th minute. Emily Fox capped off the scoring with a stunning long-range effort from 25 yards out in the final minute of normal time.
Tottenham Hotspur Women struggled to contain Arsenal’s attack, with their best chance coming from Drew Spence’s powerful back-post header, which was saved by Daphne van Domselaar. Olivia Holdt missed a golden opportunity in the closing stages, heading over the bar from six yards out.
Arsenal’s comprehensive victory keeps them unbeaten at home in the north London derby and moves them to within eight points of WSL leaders Chelsea. Tottenham, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back from this defeat as they currently sit sixth in the table with 17 points.
