Arsenal Women delivered an impressive performance to secure a dominant 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace Women in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday. This win marks the team’s 11th victory in 12 games under new head coach Renee Slegers, who took charge for the first time as permanent head coach in this match.
The match started with an early lead for Arsenal when Leah Williamson scored from a Katie McCabe corner just six minutes into the game. The Gunners continued to dominate, and their lead was doubled when Alessia Russo reacted quickly to a rebound from a fine save by Crystal Palace goalkeeper Shae Yanez, making it 2-0 in the 63rd minute.
Beth Mead added to the scoreline four minutes later, sliding the ball past Yanez into the bottom right corner for 3-0. Arsenal was awarded a penalty in the 74th minute, which Mariona Caldentey calmly converted to make it 4-0. The floodgates opened as Caldentey scored her second goal in injury time after the ball ricocheted off the crossbar and into her path, sealing the 5-0 victory.
This result moves Arsenal Women up to second place in the WSL, two points ahead of Manchester City.
