Bukayo Saka scored twice and Kai Havertz added a late third goal to defeat Monaco and take a crucial step towards securing our spot in the Champions League’s round of 16.
Arsenal secured a dominant 3-0 victory over AS Monaco in their UEFA Champions League clash at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. The win moves Arsenal to third in the standings, putting them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stage.
Bukayo Saka was the standout performer, scoring twice to seal the victory. His first goal came in the 34th minute, tapping in a cross from Gabriel Jesus. Saka added his second goal in the 78th minute, capitalizing on a mistake by Monaco goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki. Kai Havertz rounded off the scoring with a late goal in the 87th minute.
The match started cautiously, with both teams trading early chances. Gabriel Jesus had two clear opportunities but was denied by Majecki. Arsenal eventually broke the deadlock through Saka’s first goal, and they should have been further ahead before the break. However, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli both missed chances to extend the lead.
In the second half, Monaco threatened to make a comeback, but Arsenal held firm. Saka’s second goal came from a defensive error, and Havertz’s late goal put the game beyond Monaco’s reach.
With this win, Arsenal moves to 13 points in the group stage, putting them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stage.
Arsenal will look to build on this victory in their next Champions League fixture against Dinamo Zagreb on January 22. A win in that match would almost certainly secure their place in the last 16.
