Mikel Merino scored the decisive goal with a first-half header, securing Arsenal the victory in a hard-fought London derby against Chelsea.
Arsenal edged past Chelsea with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a first-half header from Mikel Merino. The win not only solidified Arsenal’s second position in the Premier League table but also extended their unbeaten streak against Chelsea to seven consecutive league matches.
Arsenal started the game with attacking intent, creating multiple chances within the opening 20 minutes. Jurrien Timber and Leandro Trossard came close to scoring, while Gabriel Martinelli, returning to the starting lineup, tested Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez early on. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Martin Odegaard’s corner found Merino, who expertly flicked his header over Sanchez to give Arsenal the lead.

Chelsea struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, with Marc Cucurella’s speculative shot being their closest attempt. Arsenal’s defense, led by William Saliba, remained resolute, ensuring the Gunners went into halftime with their lead intact.
The second half saw fewer goal-scoring opportunities but maintained its intensity. Arsenal came close to doubling their lead when Merino’s volley was brilliantly saved by Sanchez. Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice also tested the Chelsea defense, but the visitors managed to hold firm.
Chelsea, despite enjoying more possession in the latter stages, failed to create clear-cut chances. Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya remained largely untroubled, ensuring a clean sheet for the home side.
