Martin Keown has advised Mikel Arteta to replace Gabriel Jesus with a prolific goal scorer following Arsenal’s Champions League victory over Monaco.
Former Arsenal defender, Martin Keown, has urged manager Mikel Arteta to consider replacing Gabriel Jesus with a more prolific goalscorer following Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League.
Keown, speaking on TNT Sports, praised Arsenal’s performance but highlighted the need for a more consistent goal threat. “We talk about Havertz and Jesus – they need to score more goals and be more ruthless,” Keown said. He added, “There is no doubt about it. I think they could do with that different tool in the box, that player who can find an opportunity out of nothing.”
Gabriel Jesus, who started the match, missed a couple of clear chances before being substituted in the second half. Despite his experience and contributions to the team, Jesus has only scored four league goals for Arsenal since the start of last season. Keown believes that while Jesus has brought valuable experience to the team, Arsenal needs a player who can consistently convert chances into goals.
Arteta, on the other hand, was full of praise for his team’s performance and their ability to secure the win. “I’m very happy,” Arteta said. “Obviously scoring the three goals, keeping a clean sheet and winning the game. We started the game very well, in the first half we should have put the game to bed but we didn’t. In the Champions League, you will have difficult moments and we suffered but then with the second goal, the game was in control.”
