Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has declared Martin Odegaard, the “most important player in the Premier League.” This bold statement comes as Odegaard continues to impress with his performances for the Gunners.

Odegaard, who returned to action after a 12-game absence due to an ankle injury, has been instrumental in Arsenal’s recent successes. In just three appearances since his return, he has registered two assists and played a key role in Arsenal’s victories over Nottingham Forest and Sporting Lisbon. His creativity and vision on the field have been crucial for the team, making him a standout player in the league.

Keown, speaking on talkSPORT, highlighted Odegaard’s importance by pointing out that the midfielder has created 102 chances, more than any other player in the Premier League. He also noted that Odegaard has retrieved the ball in the final third 41 times, showcasing his influence both in and out of possession. Keown compared Odegaard’s impact to that of Manchester City’s Rodri, emphasizing that Odegaard’s absence has been keenly felt by Arsenal.

With Arsenal currently trailing Liverpool by nine points in the title race, Odegaard’s contributions will be vital if the Gunners are to close the gap. Keown believes that Odegaard’s return has provided a much-needed boost to the team, and his continued form will be crucial in their pursuit of the Premier League title.
