Sverre Nypan Joins Man City as the Premier League champions outmaneuver Arsenal to land Norway’s brightest midfield prospect.
Manchester City have swooped in to secure the signing of Sverre Nypan, the highly-rated 18-year-old Norwegian midfielder, despite Arsenal’s earlier efforts to bring him to North London Sverre Nypan joins Man City report The Athletic.
Arsenal had been leading the race to sign Nypan since the January transfer window, even hosting him at their training ground in an attempt to convince him to join the Gunners. The Rosenborg starlet was seen as a potential long-term midfield asset, and Arsenal were keen to finalize a deal before the summer transfer window.
However, Manchester City, who were not initially involved in the chase, have now emerged as the frontrunners to sign Nypan. Reports suggest that City made contact with the player and his representatives in recent months, successfully persuading him to opt for a move to the Etihad Stadium instead.

While personal terms are yet to be finalized, Nypan is expected to become the most expensive export in Norwegian league history once the deal is completed. City’s plan reportedly involves sending him out on loan for a season before integrating him into their senior squad.
Missing out on Nypan will be a bitter pill for Arsenal, who had invested significant time and effort into securing his signature. Aston Villa also attempted to lure the youngster but were unsuccessful in their bid.
Manchester City have been active in the transfer market, already securing deals for Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, and Rayan Cherki. The addition of Nypan further strengthens their long-term squad-building strategy under Pep Guardiola.
With the transfer window heating up, this move highlights City’s ability to outmaneuver rivals and secure top young talent. Arsenal, meanwhile, will have to regroup and look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements.
