Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has tipped his former club to sign ex-Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes in the upcoming summer transfer window. Dixon believes that Gomes, who is currently playing for Lille, would be a “superb” addition to the Gunners’ squad.
Angel Gomes spent almost a decade at Manchester United’s academy but only made ten first-team appearances before being sold to Lille in 2020. Since then, Gomes has become an integral part of the French side, making over 100 appearances and establishing himself as an England international.
Dixon sees Gomes as a perfect fit for Arsenal, especially alongside Declan Rice. “I think Angel Gomes would fit in at Arsenal superbly,” Dixon told plejmo.com. “His qualities are clear to see, he’s a very good link-up player and we’ve seen that he can play alongside Declan Rice.
One of the key reasons Dixon believes Arsenal could secure Gomes’ signature is that he is out of contract this summer. This means that Arsenal could potentially sign him on a free transfer, making it an even more attractive proposition for the club.
Gomes has been in excellent form, starring in England’s victory at the European U21 Championships last year and recording the joint-most assists in Ligue 1 last season. His impressive performances have also earned him a call-up to the senior England squad.
With his contract expiring, Gomes is already attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Newcastle. However, Dixon is confident that Arsenal could be the ideal destination for the young midfielder.
