Jorginho Agrees to Join Flamengo on Free Transfer This Summer

Jorginho Flamengo Transfer: Arsenal Star Leaves on Free Deal This Summer

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has reportedly agreed to join Brazilian giants Flamengo on a free transfer at the end of the season. The 33-year-old Italian, who arrived at the Emirates from Chelsea in 2023 for £12 million, will leave the club once his contract expires in June 2025.

Since his arrival, Jorginho has made 78 appearances for the Gunners but has struggled for consistent starts, managing just nine Premier League appearances in the starting XI this season. Despite his experience and leadership, Arsenal opted not to extend his contract, paving the way for his departure.

Flamengo had initially approached Arsenal for Jorginho in January, but manager Mikel Arteta blocked the move, preferring to keep the midfielder for the remainder of the campaign. However, with no contract extension agreed, Jorginho has now accepted a three-year deal with Flamengo according to report in Brazil, keeping him at the club until 2028.

Born in Brazil but having spent his professional career in Europe, Jorginho has expressed interest in playing in his home country before retiring. In January, he stated: _“I have never played professionally in Brazil, so it would be an incredible experience for me. This door is open, and I will calmly decide what to do in the future”.

While Jorginho prepares to leave, Arsenal are working on contract negotiations with Thomas Partey, whose deal also expires this summer. The club is also reportedly confident of securing a move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, who has a €60 million (£51m) release clause.

Jorginho’s departure marks the end of his two-year stint at Arsenal, and fans will be eager to see how Flamengo benefits from his experience in the coming seasons. Meanwhile, Arsenal will look to strengthen their midfield as they prepare for the next campaign.
