Arsenal midfielder Jorginho sidestepped questions about a transfer to Flamengo after arriving in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has sparked a wave of speculation after being spotted arriving in Rio de Janeiro amidst ongoing rumors of a potential move to Flamengo. The 33-year-old, whose contract with Arsenal is set to expire at the end of the season, has been linked with a transfer to the Brazilian club, raising questions about his next career move.

Jorginho, born in Brazil but representing Italy internationally, was seen leaving the airport in Rio on Wednesday. When approached by reporters, he maintained that his visit was purely for vacation purposes, stating, “I came on vacation.” However, he did not entirely dismiss the possibility of transfer discussions, adding, “We’ll see what happens.”

Flamengo has reportedly shown interest in signing Jorginho, having previously attempted to secure his services during the January transfer window. The club’s sporting director, José Boto, confirmed that discussions with Jorginho’s representatives have taken place. Flamengo is keen to finalize the deal in time for the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins in June.

Jorginho’s arrival in Brazil coincides with the Premier League’s international break, providing him with an opportunity to explore his options. While he remains a valuable asset for Arsenal, his age and contract situation suggest that a move to Flamengo could be on the horizon. The slower pace of Brazilian football may offer Jorginho an ideal environment to extend his playing career while reconnecting with his roots.

In an interview with ESPN Brasil, Jorginho expressed curiosity about experiencing football in Brazil, reflecting on his childhood playing barefoot on the streets and beaches. “I’m curious to know what it’s like, to experience it,” he said, hinting at a potential return to his homeland.

With the summer transfer window drawing near, Arsenal will have to replace a player with Jorginho’s level of experience and intelligence. Reports suggest that the club is already exploring options, with names like Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimarães being linked as potential successors.
