Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has urged Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to drop Leandro Trossard following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United. The match, which took place at St James’ Park, saw Alexander Isak score the decisive goal in the 12th minute from Anthony Gordon’s cross.
Cole, who initially predicted Arsenal would win the Premier League this season, admitted he is having second thoughts after the Gunners’ recent performances. “I thought Newcastle were absolutely brilliant today,” Cole told TNT Sports. “On the ball, off the ball, they were great. I think this is a season-turning result for Newcastle.”
Cole believes Arteta should make changes for the upcoming Champions League clash with Inter Milan and the London derby against Chelsea, with Trossard possibly making way due to his underwhelming display. “Trossard was off it today, he’s fantastic but there will be changes,” Cole added.
The defeat leaves Arsenal with just one point from their last three games, raising concerns about their title hopes. Cole’s comments highlight the need for Arteta to reassess his lineup and make tactical adjustments to get Arsenal back on track.
