Jamie Carragher warns that Arsenal’s refusal to prioritize signing a forward in the summer transfer window may have serious consequences for their Premier League title ambitions.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has voiced his criticism of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s transfer decisions, suggesting that they could cost Arsenal the Premier League title this season. Carragher specifically pointed to Arteta’s decision to prioritize midfield reinforcements over signing another forward during the summer transfer window.

Arsenal entered the season as strong contenders to dethrone Manchester City, but injuries to key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have left the team short of attacking options. Carragher believes that the lack of forward depth could prove costly for Arsenal’s title ambitions.

“Prioritizing signing midfielder Mikel Merino ahead of another attacker last summer looks like a mistake,” Carragher told The Telegraph. “Merino is not a game-changer. Everything we have seen in the first half of this campaign has reinforced arguments made in pre-season. Arsenal cannot win the title without another attacker.”

Carragher also highlighted Arsenal’s reliance on players like Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Martinelli, suggesting that their current strikeforce is insufficient for a title challenge. Although Arsenal secured Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea in the final hours of the summer transfer window, Sterling has struggled to make an impact.

With the January transfer window now open, Carragher urged Arsenal to address their attacking deficiencies to avoid missing out on the title once again. “If they do not react before the end of this month, it will be negligent because persisting with a strikeforce of Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Martinelli will not get the job done,” he added.
