Ian Wright criticized two players following Chelsea’s Premier League loss to Arsenal.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has voiced strong criticism of two Chelsea players following their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in a Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium. The match, decided by Mikel Merino’s first-half header, saw Chelsea’s defensive lapses come under scrutiny.

Wright speaking on Premier League Production singled out goalkeeper Robert Sánchez and forward Christopher Nkunku for their roles in the decisive goal. Nkunku, positioned at the near post during Martin Ødegaard’s corner, failed to maintain his position, allowing Merino to capitalize on the opportunity. Wright remarked, “The manager put him there for a reason, and that lapse cost them the game.”

Sánchez, recently reinstated as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper, also faced criticism for his positioning. Wright noted that Sánchez’s involvement with an Arsenal player left him out of position, stating, “He probably would have caught it if he was in the right spot. It’s such poor goalkeeping at this level.”

Despite the victory, Wright expressed a desire for more from Arsenal, who remain second in the league standings. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, acknowledged the team’s struggles but remained optimistic about their prospects after the international break.

This match serves as a reminder of the fine margins in football and the importance of attention to detail at the highest level. For Chelsea, the road ahead will require introspection and improvement to regain their footing in the league.
