Ian Wright has advised Arsenal’s board that Mikel Arteta’s side will ‘fizzle out’ this season if reinforcements are not brought in during the January transfer window.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has issued a stark warning to the club’s board, cautioning that Mikel Arteta’s side will “fizzle out” this season if new signings are not made during the January transfer window. Wright’s comments come in the wake of Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, which saw the Gunners squander a two-goal lead.
Wright expressed his concerns about the team’s current squad depth, highlighting the physical and mental fatigue evident in recent performances. “It’s tough for Arsenal, they’re down to the bare bones with what they’re doing,” Wright told Premier League Productions. “You look at the bench, there’s not even an attacker on there who has got a Premier League goal this season, it’s very bare.”
The former striker emphasized the need for reinforcements, particularly in attack, to sustain a title challenge. “I think we have won one game out of six when Thomas Partey has played at right-back, it’s a vulnerable position for us. Unfortunately for me again, I’ll say I think the manager needs a lot of help from the board now.”
Wright’s warning underscores the urgency for Arsenal to bolster their squad if they hope to remain competitive in the Premier League title race. The board’s response to this plea will be crucial in determining the team’s fate this season.
