Arsenal fans in Singapore were treated to a thrilling moment ahead of the club’s pre-season friendly against Newcastle United, as newly signed striker Viktor Gyokeres was officially unveiled on the pitch at the National Stadium.

Gyokeres, 27, joins Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon in a £64 million deal, marking one of the club’s most significant transfers in recent years. He will wear the iconic No. 14 shirt, previously donned by legends like Thierry Henry and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Manager Mikel Arteta expressed his excitement:

“Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers at club and international levels. We’re excited about what Viktor brings to our squad and are looking forward to start working with him.”

Gyokeres arrives with a staggering record of 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting since his move from Coventry City in 2023. His consistency and clinical finishing made him one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards.

Arsenal’s need for a natural striker became urgent last season, with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz sidelined by injuries. Midfielder Mikel Merino was even deployed as a makeshift forward at times. Gyokeres is expected to fill that void and lead the line with authority.

His unveiling comes amid a transformative summer for the Gunners, who have also signed Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, and Kepa Arrizabalaga — pushing their summer spending close to £210 million.

Gyokeres is expected to begin training with his new teammates shortly and could make his debut later in the tour. Arsenal’s next pre-season clash is against Tottenham in Hong Kong, followed by the Premier League opener away at Manchester United on August 17.

With his arrival, Arsenal fans have every reason to believe that the club’s long-standing striker dilemma may finally be resolved — and that the No. 14 shirt might once again become synonymous with goals and glory.
