Graeme Souness has made a harch remark about Arsenal forward Kai Havertz after his injury setback.
Former Liverpool star and respected pundit Graeme Souness has taken a significant dig at Arsenal forward Kai Havertz following his recent injury. The Germany international is set to miss the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury sustained during Arsenal’s winter training break in Dubai. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta described the injury as a “big blow,” with Havertz joining Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Jesus in the treatment room.
Despite Havertz’s impressive record of 29 goals in 85 appearances for Arsenal since his £65m move from Chelsea in 2023, Souness believes his absence might be a “blessing in disguise” for the Gunners. Speaking to MailSport, Souness said, “I’m not so sure how much Kai Havertz, who is out for the rest of the season, will be missed. I watched him in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle the other week. He just kept getting pushed over and losing possession.”
Souness added that Arteta has to come up with different ways of scoring goals and perhaps a slightly different way of playing while maintaining the same basic principles. “It might be a blessing in disguise if someone steps up and proves to be an unexpected goalscorer,” he said.
Havertz’s injury leaves Arsenal with limited attacking options, with Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling, and teenage star Ethan Nwaneri as the club’s only recognized forwards. Despite this, Arsenal managed to secure a crucial win against Leicester City, with Mikel Merino scoring twice to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Havertz shared an update on social media after undergoing surgery on his hamstring, expressing gratitude for the support he received and focusing on his journey to full fitness.
