Arsenal comeback hope: Can the Gunners overcome PSG and keep their Champions League dream alive? Gael Clichy weighs in on their chances.
Former Gunners left-back Gael Clichy has offered a candid assessment of Arsenal comeback hope of advancing to the Champions League Final. With Arsenal trailing 1-0 from the first leg. The ex-defender, who spent eight years in North London, believes that Arsenal has the talent to pull off a victory in Paris—but only if they approach the game with the right mentality and intensity.
Arsenal suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium, conceding two unanswered goals in the second half. Meanwhile, PSG also faced a setback, losing 2-1 to RC Strasbourg, marking their second consecutive Ligue 1 defeat. Both teams will need to regroup quickly before their decisive clash.
Clichy Speaking on Sky Sports, expressed concern over Arsenal’s recent performances, noting that their lack of urgency in key moments could spell trouble against an elite PSG side. He stressed the importance of energy and aggression, qualities that have defined Arsenal’s best performances this season.
“Massive game against Paris,” Clichy said. “I’m not sure many people will count them, you know, to go there and win. If there’s a team that can actually do it, it’s them. But if they play like we’ve seen them [on Saturday] in the last few games, then I think there’s a concern because there’s a lack of energy, intensity. Of course, the desire to win is there, but, you know, at this level you need to do more than this.”
With 90 minutes separating Arsenal from a place in the Champions League final, the team must rise to the occasion. PSG, despite their own struggles, remains a formidable opponent, and Arsenal will need to deliver a high-energy performance to stand a chance.
