“In the link-up side of the game [Gyokeres] may not provide everything they need. But with Madueke and Eze in the side, it feels right to have someone who is always attacking the box,” Clichy said.

Gyokeres arrived from Sporting CP after scoring 54 goals in 52 matches. His physicality and box presence make him ideal for Arsenal’s new system, which relies on quick wing play and direct crosses. “Arsenal wanted Isak for sure… but I don’t think Arsenal were prepared to match the price tag,” Clichy added.

“I think that is what we are going to see more of this season—more freedom for the wingers, getting the ball into the box for the new signing,” he said.
