Brazil’s Football Federation has officially released a 52-player shortlist for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina. Martinelli’s inclusion highlights the strong faith head coach Dorival JΓΊnior has in the 23-year-old attacker. The final 23-man squad will be confirmed next week, and Martinelli remains a serious contender to feature.

This decision surprised many Arsenal fans, as Mikel Arteta recently confirmed that Martinelli would be sidelined until after the international break. The winger sustained a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Newcastle United. However, Arteta also noted that Martinelli’s recovery is progressing well and that the player could return sooner than expected.

Arteta Urges Caution Over Recovery

Speaking to reporters, Arteta emphasized the importance of patience in Martinelli’s rehabilitation process. The Arsenal boss wants to ensure the Brazilian forward returns only when fully fit to avoid setbacks. Sources within the club suggest that Martinelli may be back in contention by early April, depending on his progress.

Still, Brazil’s provisional inclusion hints that Martinelli might recover faster than initially projected. His potential involvement would be a significant confidence boost for both Brazil and Arsenal as they approach crucial fixtures.

If cleared for international duty, Martinelli’s return would provide Arsenal with a much-needed attacking lift. The Gunners have struggled with multiple injuries to key players like Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, limiting their forward options. A fully fit Martinelli could reignite Arsenal’s offensive rhythm as they continue their push in both domestic and European competitions.
