Gabriel Jesus has expressed his confidence in Arsenal academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri, believing the young talent can emulate the success of Manchester City and England star Phil Foden. Jesus’s praise comes after Nwaneri’s stunning strike in the Carabao Cup, which helped Arsenal secure a 3-0 victory over Preston.
Nwaneri, who has quickly become a standout performer for Arsenal, scored his third goal in just two starts for the club. His latest goal was a superb strike from the edge of the area, has drawn comparisons to Foden’s rise through the ranks at Manchester City.
Jesus, who was part of the Manchester City squad when Foden was breaking through, has seen firsthand the qualities that make a young player successful. “I have been with some special youngsters, like Phil and with Cole Palmer as well and also James McAtee at City,” Jesus said. “So to see Ethan in training and in games is good, because I am a fan of football”
The Brazilian forward believes that with the right guidance and hard work, Nwaneri can achieve great things. “When I see someone young with this quality, I am happy and then obviously I want him to grow, grow, grow and then if he needs something from me, personally, I am here to help him because I am 27. I am young, but I have been in this game for a few years.”
Nwaneri’s journey has been remarkable. At just 17 years old, he has already made history by becoming the youngest player to score in his first two starts for Arsenal. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta describing him as a “big talent” with the right attitude and work ethic.
