UEFA has launched an investigation into the conduct of four Real players during the second leg where Real Madrid eliminated Atletico Madrid in a penalty shootout earlier this month.
Real Madrid’s preparations for their Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal could be thrown into disarray as UEFA launches an investigation into the conduct of Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, Antonio Rüdiger, and Dani Ceballos following their controversial celebrations after defeating Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16.
The allegations include Mbappé allegedly making a gesture involving his genitals, Rüdiger mimicking a throat-slitting motion, and Vinícius and Ceballos engaging in provocative behavior towards Atletico fans. These actions have sparked outrage, with Atletico reportedly submitting video evidence to UEFA investigation.
A statement from UEFA on Thursday read: ‘A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to investigate allegations of indecent conduct by Real Madrid CF players (Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe, Daniel Ceballos Fernandez and Vinicius Junior) during the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match between Club Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid CF on 12 March 2025.’

If found guilty, the players could face suspensions, potentially sidelining them for the high-stakes quarter-final against Arsenal. This would be a significant blow to Real Madrid, as Mbappé and Vinícius are pivotal to their attacking prowess, while Rüdiger anchors their defense.
Arsenal, meanwhile, could see this as a golden opportunity to capitalize on a potentially weakened Real Madrid squad. The first leg is set to take place at the Emirates Stadium on April 8, with the return leg in Madrid on April 16.
While UEFA’s decision is pending, the football world awaits it with anticipation. Will Real Madrid’s stars face the consequences, or will they play against Arsenal? The outcome could shape the trajectory of this year’s Champions League.
