Former Arsenal and Germany star Lukas Podolski, looked unrecognised with a dramatic transformation. Just days after bidding an emotional farewell to his football career, Podolski shared a photo on Instagram that left many stunned. The image showed him in a coal mine in Bielszowice, Poland, looking almost unrecognisable in a hardhat, yellow boots, and a matching jacket.
Podolski, who has always been proud of his Polish roots, captioned the photo with “God bless you!” and the hashtag “never forget where you come from”. This visit to the coal mine was a poignant reminder of his heritage, as he was born in Gliwice, a city near Bielszowice.
Podolski’s football journey is nothing short of illustrious. Over a 21-year career, he played for top clubs like Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Galatasaray, Vissel Kobe, and Antalyaspor. He also earned 130 caps for the German national team, scoring 49 goals and winning the World Cup in 2014.
Earlier this month, Podolski officially retired from professional football. His farewell match took place in Cologne, where he began his career. The event was a heartfelt occasion, attended by many football legends, including Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels, and Per Mertesacker.
Even before hanging up his boots, Podolski had already laid the groundwork for a successful post-football career. He owns a thriving kebab business empire with over 30 restaurants, including one at Bonn Airport in Cologne. His business ventures have made him a significant figure in the culinary world, with a net worth estimated at around £180 million.
