Arsenal have been seeking a new sporting director since Edu’s sudden departure from the Emirates Stadium in November, and it appears that Tomas Rosicky has emerged as a candidate.
Arsenal legend Tomas Rosicky is reportedly the frontrunner to become the club’s next sporting director, following Edu Gaspar’s departure to join Nottingham Forest’s network of clubs. The Gunners have been on the lookout for a new sporting director since Edu’s exit, and Rosicky’s name has emerged as a top contender.
Rosicky, who spent a decade at Arsenal from 2006 to 2016, has been serving as the sporting director at his boyhood club, Sparta Prague, since 2018. During his tenure, he has guided Sparta to back-to-back Czechia league championships and a cup double in the 2023/24 season. His success in rebuilding Sparta Prague has caught the attention of Arsenal’s hierarchy, making him a strong candidate for the role.
The 44-year-old Czech international made 170 senior appearances for Arsenal and was known for his high work rate and dedication to the club. His familiarity with the club and its culture, along with his post-playing career experience, makes him an attractive option for the position.
Rosicky remains close to current Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and academy manager Per Mertesacker, which could further facilitate his potential return to the club. While any potential move is likely to be delayed until the end of the current season, Rosicky has expressed his openness to the idea of returning to Arsenal.
Arsenal fans will undoubtedly welcome the return of a beloved figure who played a crucial role in the club’s FA Cup victory in 2014. Rosicky’s leadership and experience could be instrumental in continuing the club’s rebuild and achieving further success in the future.
