Portuguese defender Nuno Tavares joins Lazio after completing a £6 million transfer from Arsenal. The 25-year-old full-back, who previously had loan spells at Marseille, Nottingham Forest, and Lazio, is set to make a permanent move to Serie A, bringing his attacking style to the Italian club.
Tavares joined Arsenal from Benfica in July 2021, making 28 appearances in all competitions during his debut season. He scored his first competitive goal in a 3-1 victory against Manchester United in April 2022. However, competition from players like Oleksandr Zinchenko saw him fall out of favor, leading to multiple loan spells.
Over the past three seasons, Tavares was loaned out to Marseille, Nottingham Forest, and Lazio. His most recent stint at Lazio proved fruitful, as he recorded nine league assists and helped the club finish seventh in Serie A last season. His performances also earned him his first senior international cap for Portugal in a 5-1 Nations League win over Poland in November 2024.
Arsenal expressed gratitude for Tavares’ contributions, stating: “Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Nuno for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future.”
Now signed to Lazio on a three-year deal, Tavares will look to establish himself as a key player in the Italian league. Lazio fans will be eager to see how his attacking full-back style influences their squad in the upcoming season.
This transfer marks a fresh start for the 25-year-old, who will aim to make a lasting impact in Serie A. Lazio supporters will hope his dynamic playmaking ability continues to shine in Rome.
