Fabio Vieira rejoined his boyhood club, FC Porto, on a long season loan during the summer window. The Portuguese midfielder, who joined Arsenal in the summer of 2022 for £32 million, has struggled to find his footing in the Premier League. After two challenging seasons marked by injuries and limited playing time, Vieira felt it was time for a change.
Vieira said that the choice to return to Porto was completely his own. “The idea of returning came from me. I love this club and I’m going to give everything on the pitch,” he told O Jogo. The 23-year-old emphasized his emotional connection to Porto, describing it as his home and expressing his excitement about playing in front of the fans once again.
During his time at Arsenal, Vieira showed glimpses of the talent that made him a standout player at Porto. However, injuries and stiff competition for spot limited his opportunities under Mikel Arteta. Despite the departure of Emile Smith Rowe, which seemed to open up more chances for Vieira, he felt that a return to Porto would provide the best environment for his development.
Vieira is optimistic about his future at Porto. “I’m happy, obviously, it’s my home. I’m looking forward to being at the stadium, playing in front of these fans, and doing the best I can for this club this season,” he said. He believes that returning to familiar surroundings will help him regain the form that made him such a promising talent before his move to England.
