Former Arsenal defender Rob Holding has removed all references to Crystal Palace from his social media acounts. This move comes after the 28-year-old was reportedly instructed to train separately from the main squad by Palace manager Oliver Glasner.
Rob Holding joined Crystal Palace from Arsenal in September 2023 for a fee of £4 million. His transfer was seen as a fresh start after a challenging period at Arsenal, where he struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting XI. However, his stay at Selhurst Park has not been without challenges. Despite being fit for most of the season, Holding made only a single appearance for Palace, featuring in a 3-0 EFL Cup defeat to Manchester United.
The situation escalated when Glasner confirmed that Holding was training alone, citing undisclosed reasons for the decision. “Rob is training individually at the moment. We will talk together. He knows the reason, but it is something that stays between Rob and me. Nothing public,” Glasner stated. This lack of transparency has fueled speculation about a possible split between the player and the manager.
In response to his isolation, Holding took to social media, removing all references to Crystal Palace from his Instagram account and unfollowing the club.
Holding’s social media activity is a modern-day signal of unrest. It suggests a deepening divide between him and the club, one that might lead to his departure in the upcoming transfer window.
With the arrival of new defenders like Chadi Riad, Maxence Lacroix, and Trevoh Chalobah, Holding has found himself surplus to requirements at Crystal Palace. His future at the club remains uncertain, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him seek a move away in January to revive his career.
