Espanyol manager Manolo Gonzalez has confirmed that the club is powerless to prevent their talented goalkeeper, Joan Garcia, from joining Premier League giants Arsenal. This revelation comes amidst growing speculation about Garcia’s future, with Arsenal keen on securing the services of the highly-rated Spain Under-21 international.

Joan Garcia, a product of Espanyol’s youth academy, has been a standout performer for the club. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from several top European clubs. However, it is Arsenal who have emerged as the frontrunners in the race to sign the young goalkeeper.

Manolo Gonzalez, speaking after Espanyol’s recent LaLiga match, expressed his desire to retain Garcia but acknowledged the club’s limited ability to do so. “I can’t do anything,” Gonzalez stated. “If they pay the clause, we can’t do anything. I’m very happy that he’s here and that he’s from the club. I don’t think he’ll leave, but I can’t know. It’s a luxury to have a player like him”.

Arsenal’s interest in Joan Garcia is driven by their need to find a replacement for Aaron Ramsdale, who is set to join Southampton. Ramsdale’s departure has left a void in the Gunners’ goalkeeping department, and Garcia is seen as an ideal candidate to fill that gap. The 23-year-old goalkeeper, who recently won Olympic gold with Spain, has a release clause in his contract worth £25.7 million.

Garcia’s departure from Espanyol would be a big blow. The young goalkeeper has been a key figure for the team, and his departure would leave a noticeable void. However, the financial boost from his transfer could provide the club with the resources needed to strengthen other areas of the squad.

Getting Garcia on board would be a huge coup for Arsenal. The Gunners have been actively seeking to bolster their squad, and Garcia’s addition would not only provide them with a reliable option between the posts but also signal their intent to compete at the highest level.
