Enzo Maresca believes that Moises Caicedo has reached a level equivalent to that of Declan Rice of Arsenal and Rodri of Manchester City.
Enzo Maresca, the Chelsea manager, has boldly stated that Moises Caicedo can now be considered at the same level as Declan Rice of Arsenal and Rodri of Manchester City. Maresca’s comments come as Caicedo has hit top form this season, following a challenging first year at Chelsea.
Caicedo, who joined Chelsea from Brighton for £115 million in the summer of 2023, initially struggled to adapt to the demands of his new club. However, under Maresca’s guidance, the Ecuadorian midfielder has flourished, becoming a key player for the Blues. His consistent performances have earned him praise and recognition as one of the standout holding midfielders in the Premier League.
Maresca’s comparison of Caicedo to Rice and Rodri highlights the midfielder’s significant improvement. While Rodri has been ruled out for the season due to an ACL injury, Rice has only recently found his best form after a slow start to the campaign. Maresca believes that Caicedo’s current level of play merits being mentioned alongside these top-tier midfielders.
“Moises is for sure now at that level,” Maresca said confidently. “No doubt. Unfortunately, Rodri is injured but Declan is playing. But I think Moises can sit at that table with that kind of midfielder.”
