Edwin van der Sar delivers his verdict on Manchester United transfer target Bart Verbruggen while questioning Arsenal’s David Raya.
Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has delivered the verdict, expressing admiration for Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen while being concerned about Arsenal’s David Raya. The former Dutch goalkeeper, known for his stellar career at Old Trafford, has highlighted Verbruggen as one of the most promising shot-stoppers in the Premier League, fueling speculation about a potential move to United.
United’s interest in Verbruggen comes as the club searches for a long-term replacement for Andre Onana, who has struggled to meet expectations. Reports suggest that United have stepped up their pursuit of the 22-year-old Dutch international, with discussions underway for a possible £34 million deal.
When asked to name his favorite goalkeepers in the Premier League right now, Van der Sar told Optus Sport, “I like both Ederson and Alisson.”
‘But I think they’re a little too much injured at the moment. They’re not consistent.
“I like Bart Verbruggen,” Van der Sar said, expressing his admiration for the player. He’s a young Dutch goalkeeper who is doing really well”. His endorsement adds weight to the rumors linking Verbruggen to Old Trafford.

In contrast to his glowing assessment of Verbruggen, Van der Sar was less complimentary about Arsenal’s David Raya, suggesting the Spanish goalkeeper lacks decisiveness in key moments. “I hope to see a little bit more from David Raya,” Van der Sar remarked. “At times, he lacks decisiveness in his actions, and that’s something he needs to improve to reach the next level.”
With Manchester United enduring a difficult season, currently sitting in 16th place in the Premier League, the club is looking to make key changes in the summer transfer window. Whether Verbruggen will be the answer to their goalkeeping woes remains to be seen, but Van der Sar’s endorsement certainly adds weight to the speculation surrounding his potential move to Old Trafford.
