Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is facing a selection dilemma ahead of the team’s upcoming clash with Arsenal. Following Newcastle’s recent 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Chelsea, Howe is keen to find the right balance in his midfield and attack, reports the Express.
The Magpies’ recent win saw Alexander Isak and Joe Willock shine, with Isak capitalizing on a defensive error to open the scoring and Willock’s deflected header doubling the lead. However, the victory has added to Howe’s selection headaches, particularly on the left flank.
Joelinton, who played a key role in the win, has impressed Howe with his versatility and performance in a wide-attacking role. This has created competition for places with players like Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes, both of whom are also vying for a spot on the left.
Howe commented on the situation, saying, “It’s a difficult position for me to pick from because we have an array of riches on that left-hand side with Anthony, Harvey, and Joe. When Joelinton and Joe Willock play together, they dovetail that position really well. I’m not sure what the final solution to that is other than we’ve got very good players competing for places.”
The Newcastle manager is also mindful of the need to maintain balance and consistency in his team’s performances. With the Premier League season in full swing, Howe is focused on finding the best solution to ensure his team can compete effectively against a top Arsenal side.
