Arsenal Star Eberechi Eze Praises Teenage Talent Max Dowman After FA Cup Breakthrough

Arsenal midfielder Eberechi Eze with huge praise for Max Dowman as a “special” talent after the teenage sensation broke another club record during the Gunners’ FA Cup victory.

The 16-year-old academy product became Arsenal’s youngest-ever player to start an FA Cup match when he lined up in the fifth-round clash against Mansfield Town. Despite the difficult conditions, Dowman delivered an impressive performance that helped Mikel Arteta’s side secure a 2-1 win and reach the quarter-finals.

The match itself proved far from straightforward. Noni Madueke opened the scoring late in the first half, but Mansfield’s Will Evans equalised shortly after the break. Eze then stepped up in the 66th minute, scoring the decisive goal that sent Arsenal through to the next round.

While Eze’s finish proved crucial, much of the attention after the game centred on Dowman’s remarkable display.

Dowman’s Performance Steals the Show

Dowman played with confidence well beyond his years on a difficult pitch that caused problems for many experienced players.

The teenager led Arsenal in dribbles and created several attacking opportunities throughout the match. He also ranked among the team’s leaders for shots and touches inside the opposition box.

For a player making history at just 16 years old, the performance further underlined why many within the club believe he is one of Hale End’s brightest prospects.

His composure and technical quality stood out during a physical cup tie, showing maturity rarely seen in players his age.

Eberechi Eze Delivers Strong Praise for Max Dowman

Speaking after the match, Eze did not hide his admiration for the young midfielder.

He is a special, special player,” the Arsenal star said.

“To be able to play in those types of conditions and still dribble and control the ball the way he did shows how talented he is.”

Eze also highlighted Dowman’s confidence and personality within the squad.

“Max is very different to a lot of players, but he believes in his ability. He is a special player, but also a special person as well. You can see that he is maturing and he’s a good guy to have around the team.”

According to Eze, the senior players are doing everything they can to support the teenager’s development as his career continues to accelerate.

Arteta Impressed by Dowman’s Composure

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also praised the young midfielder following the match.

The Spaniard described Dowman’s ability to handle pressure and control the ball under difficult circumstances as “exceptional”.

When the ball is bouncing everywhere and players are pressing you from behind, the way he manages time and space is incredible,” Arteta explained.

“The speed at which he makes decisions and executes actions tells you the level of talent he has.”

Dowman was not the only young player involved, with fellow 16-year-old Marli Salmon also featuring in the heavily rotated side.

Dowman’s Historic Season Continues

The FA Cup milestone is only the latest record broken by Dowman during a remarkable breakthrough season.

He has already become:

  • Arsenal’s youngest-ever Premier League player
  • The youngest starter in any competition for the club
  • The youngest Arsenal player to appear in the Champions League

His progress has been particularly impressive considering he recently returned from an ankle ligament injury suffered in December.

Despite the setback, Dowman has quickly re-established himself as one of the most exciting talents emerging from Arsenal’s Hale End academy.

Arsenal’s Rising Star Surrounded by Support

Within the Arsenal squad, several senior players have taken an active role in helping the teenager develop.

Declan Rice has been seen mentoring Dowman during training sessions, while teammates like Eze continue to offer guidance and encouragement.

With Arsenal still competing for major honours this season — including the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup — opportunities for academy players could continue to arise as Arteta manages his squad carefully.

For Dowman, the journey is only just beginning. Yet with praise already coming from established stars, Arsenal supporters may be witnessing the early stages of their next homegrown superstar.
