Darren Bent has advised Arsenal to drop their interest in Arda Guler, saying he’s no better than their current midfield options.
Former England striker Darren Bent has voiced his opinion on Arsenal’s rumored interest in Real Madrid’s Arda Guler, urging the club to reconsider. Spanish publication Sport reports that Arsenal have contacted Guler’s representatives to determine if the Turkey international is interested in a move to the Emirates.
Bent believes that Guler, despite his potential, would not be an improvement on Arsenal’s current midfield options.
Speaking on talkSPORT’s Insider Gooners podcast, Bent stated, “Not for me. You want a grade out of five? I’ll say one. He won’t fit the squad. I think he’s a very good player, I saw him at the Euros, very talented, but will you swap one bench for another?”
Bent’s comments come as Arsenal is reportedly considering a move for the young Turkish midfielder, who has struggled to secure regular playing time at Real Madrid. Bent argues that Guler would likely find himself on the bench at Arsenal, given the presence of established players like Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka.
While acknowledging Guler’s talent, Bent believes that Arsenal already has sufficient depth in midfield and should focus on other areas of the squad. “At Real Madrid he’s not getting the opportunities. Coming to Arsenal there are better options, be it out wide or in the number 10 role. I can’t see that one happening. Good player, but, not for Arsenal, no.”
