Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has praised Arsenal and England star Declan Rice, despite the criticism he has received throughout England’s inconsistent Euro 2024 campaign. Gallagher described Declan Rice as “world-class” and emphasized his continuous improvement.

The record-breaking signing for Arsenal, Rice, played in all 38 Premier League games during his debut season at the Emirates Stadium, as the Gunners come just short of winning the tittle.

When asked by a talkSPORT reporter to rank Rice, Gallagher responded, “I would say among the top five. He’s definitely up there, and the exciting thing is he’s getting better.”

Gallagher noted that Rice’s move to a top club like Arsenal has furthered his development. “He’s improved massively from when he was at West Ham. It’s really exciting for England, and he’s a top guy as well. I think he is pretty much a world-class midfielder, and he’s been fantastic for Arsenal so far. I’m sure he’s going to keep improving.”

Regarding Gallagher’s own performance, he has had limited opportunities during England’s Euros campaign. He made only second-half appearances in the group games against Serbia and Denmark before being substituted in the goalless draw with Slovenia. In that match, Gallagher replaced Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold but was taken off for Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo at half-time.

England manager Gareth Southgate retained Mainoo for the last-16 clash with Slovakia, bringing Gallagher on in extra time to help defend England’s lead. Reflecting on his substitution, Gallagher said, “Obviously, it’s not nice. You want to play as much as possible, and starting a game for England at a major tournament is incredible. But it was a difficult game, and I understand the manager wanted to change things tactically.”

Gallagher praised Southgate’s communication, saying, “What’s great about the manager is that he told me before he told the team, so I knew, and it was fine. You want to play as much as possible, but I completely understand.”
