Celtic captain Callum McGregor acknowledges the rumours surrounding Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney’s potential return to the club, admitting that the left-back would be a “quality” addition.
Celtic captain Callum McGregor has addressed the ongoing transfer rumors linking Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney with a return to his boyhood club. Speaking to the media, McGregor acknowledged the speculation and expressed his admiration for Tierney, calling him a “quality player” who would be a valuable addition to the squad
Tierney, who left Celtic for Arsenal in a £25 million deal in 2019, has struggled with injuries and a loss of form in recent seasons. Despite this, McGregor believes that Tierney’s return to Celtic would be beneficial for both the player and the club.
“I’ve been in war with him for a number of years now!” McGregor said with a smile. “Kieran’s a good guy, and we’ll see what happens. I haven’t spoken to him yet, but I’ve seen all the stuff that’s been written.”
McGregor also mentioned that Celtic is always looking to strengthen the squad and that new additions in the January transfer window would be welcomed. “When you’re at a big club, the demands are so high that you always have to be at the maximum level and push yourself, the squad, everybody,” he added.
Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers has also hinted at plans to strengthen key areas of the squad, though he refrained from commenting directly on Tierney’s potential return.
