Benjamin Sesko has revealed the precise reason why he chose to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga club over joining Arsenal this summer.
The RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko recently made headlines when he turned down a move to Arsenal this summer.
The 21-year Slovenian forward was heavily linked with a move, to the Premier League with interest from Chelsea and Manchester United as well.
However, Arsenal seemed determined to make a €55 million offer that fell short of Sesko’s €65 million release clause. In an interview with media outlet Nogomania Sesko discussed his choice to remain at Leipzig.
He stated, “I thought it through very well. I believe I made the right decision.
“I wanted to gain more experience, learn more, and not rush things. Leipzig is an excellent club that can provide what I need for the next step.
“Leipzig’s vision is clear; everything is geared towards growth, progress, and high goals. I felt it was right to decide this way.”
Sesko’s first season at Leipzig was impressive despite a slow start of the season, he netted 14 goals in the league and extended his contract with the club until 2029.
Although his contract does not include a release clause, there is reportedly a gentleman’s agreement in place that will allow him to leave for an undisclosed price if the opportunity arises.
Talks with Leipzig manager Marco Rose played a crucial role in Sesko’s decision. Rose encouraged him to follow his feelings, ultimately leading to the young striker’s commitment to Leipzig. Sesko expressed gratitude, saying, “He’s an excellent coach who has led many great players. I’m glad I decided this way.”
Despite the setback, Arsenal remains keen, on Sesko for the future.
