Edu Gaspar has broken his silence following his shock decision to leave Arsenal as sporting director. In an official statement released by the club, Edu expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to work with so many amazing people and be a part of Arsenal’s history.
“This was an incredibly hard decision to make,” Edu said. “Arsenal has given me the opportunity to work with so many amazing people and the chance to be a part of something so special in the club’s history. It has been a special journey and I thank Stan, Josh, Tim, and Lord Harris for the support they’ve given me.”
Edu also shared his appreciation for his colleagues across the men’s, women’s, and academy teams, especially his close relationship with manager Mikel Arteta. “I’ve loved working with so many great colleagues, especially Mikel, who has become a great friend,” Edu added.
“Now it is time to pursue a different challenge. Arsenal will always remain in my heart. I wish the club and its supporters only good things and all the very best.”
Arsenal co-chair Josh Kroenke also commented on Edu’s departure, expressing respect for his decision and thanking him for his immense contribution and dedication to driving the club forward. “Everyone at the club wishes him well. We are all so fond of him and the positive energy he brings to everything and everyone.”
Edu’s exit comes as a surprise to many, but it is understood to be entirely his decision. He is reportedly set to join Nottingham Forest, where he will work with owner Evangelos Marinakis. Edu’s new role will involve overseeing recruitment and player development for Marinakis’ network of clubs, which includes Olympiacos and Rio Ave.
