Mikel Arteta has revealed Jurrien Timber has a minor foot injury, keeping him sidelined from the squad for the friendly against Bayer Leverkusen.

Jurrien Timber took part in the US tour, but missed the game versus Liverpool in Philadelphia and is also absent again this evening. Following the game against Bayern Leverkusen, the Arsenal manager stated that, “Jurrien has had a little discomfort in his foot the last few days. After the amount of time he has been out, we did not want to take any risks with him.”

The Arsenal boss was also questioned about new recruit Riccardo Calafiori, who was not included in the matchday squad but was present at the club as part of his integration.

“With regards to Riccardo, so much has happened to him in one week,” Arteta stated.

He has come into a new environment, a completely different methodology, different training and we are managing him.

We want to do it slowly, to get him in the best possible way. Hopefully on Sunday he will be available to play some minutes.”

Calafiori has yet to make his Arsenal debut after signing from Bologna for £42 million, but he will get another chance before the 2024/25 season begins.

Arsenal will face Lyon at Emirates Stadium on Sunday before beginning their Premier League season against Wolves the following weekend.
