Arteta abruptly ends interview on Arsenal striker transfer after United draw.

Arteta interview on striker transfer

Arteta ends striker transfer interview abruptly after Sky Sports questions January decisions.

Mikel Arteta abruptly ended his post-match interview after Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davison asked about Arsenal’s failure to sign a striker during the January transfer window. The tense moment followed Arsenal’s 1–1 draw with Manchester United, a result that extended their winless run to three games and widened the gap to league leaders Liverpool to 15 points.

Arteta began the interview with a measured tone, acknowledging his team’s lack of finishing. But when Davison asked, “Should you have signed a striker in January to bolster your attacking options?” Arteta snapped, “No, no. It’s not about that,” and turned to walk away. Davison pressed further about the title race, prompting Arteta to mutter “no” and exit the interview.

Arsenal’s Attacking Struggles Continue

Declan Rice scored the equalizer after Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring with a free-kick, but Arsenal’s inability to convert chances remains a concern. Injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have left the squad short on attacking options, and the club’s failure to secure a striker in January has drawn criticism.

Reports suggest Arsenal pursued Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins but failed to reach an agreement. Other targets, including Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel and Rosenborg’s Sverre Nypan, also slipped away.

Transfer Frustration Lingers for Arteta

Arteta previously admitted his disappointment over the lack of January signings. “We were disappointed not to get someone in January,” he said in a pre-Newcastle press conference. “But we have to work with what we have.”

His comments reflected a disciplined approach to the market, but Sunday’s interview walkout suggests the issue remains a sensitive topic. The Arteta interview moment highlights growing pressure on the manager as the season enters its final stretch
