Mikel Arteta has delivered a major fitness boost for Arsenal ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Sunderland, confirming positive injury updates on Jurrien Timber, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Ødegaard.

Speaking to the Media at the Sobha Realty Training Centre, the Arsenal manager provided encouraging news after recent fitness concerns disrupted squad availability during the Carabao Cup semi-final win over Chelsea.

Arteta confirmed that Jurrien Timber is fully fit and available for selection, easing concerns after the defender missed an open training session earlier in the week.

“Jurrien is fine.”

The Dutch defender has become a key figure in Arsenal’s defensive structure this season, and his availability strengthens Arteta’s options ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.

Bukayo Saka Closing in on Return

Arteta also delivered positive news on Bukayo Saka, who picked up a hip issue during the warm-up before last weekend’s match against Leeds.

“His hip is getting much better, so hopefully very soon he will be with us.”

While Saka is unlikely to feature against Sunderland, the update points to a swift return, with the England international edging closer to full fitness as Arsenal enter a crucial phase of the season.

Ødegaard Progressing Well

Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard, who missed the Chelsea match with a muscular problem, is also close to returning.

“Martin is getting better. It will be a matter of days we believe.”

Although he may not be risked this weekend, his recovery timeline provides a timely boost for Arsenal’s midfield depth and leadership structure

Wider Squad Update

Arteta confirmed that young talent Max Dowman remains weeks away from returning after ankle ligament damage, while Mikel Merino continues his rehabilitation programme.

These absences remain long-term, but Arsenal’s core squad is now stabilising as key players return

Despite Sunderland’s mid-table position, Arteta warned his players against complacency.

“They are a team with a lot of energy and talent. It’s a complex game.”

The newly promoted side have impressed this season and will arrive at the Emirates with confidence, forcing Arsenal to maintain intensity and discipline

Title Pressure Builds

Arsenal remain firmly in the title race, with every point now crucial in the closing stages of the season. A win over Sunderland would maintain momentum and keep pressure on rivals at the top of the table as February’s congested fixture list begins.

With Timber available, Saka nearing a return, and Ødegaard close to full fitness, Arteta’s squad is moving towards full strength at a decisive moment in the campaign.
