Arsenal defensive trio fit for season opener as Gabriel, Timber, and Calafiori return to action ahead of the new season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has delivered a welcome boost to fans ahead of the Premier League kickoff, confirming that defensive trio Gabriel Magalhães, Riccardo Calafiori, and Jurrien Timber are expected to be fit for the season opener against Manchester United on August 17.
Speaking after Arsenal’s 1-0 preseason defeat to Tottenham in Hong Kong, Arteta addressed concerns over the trio’s fitness.
“I don’t think so,” he said when asked if there was any risk of them missing the opener. “If they evolve like they’ve been involved in the last few days, so Gabriel Magalhães, Calafiori and Timber, the three of them will be available”.
Gabriel Magalhaes has yet to feature in any of Arsenal’s Asia tour friendlies due to an injury sustained in training. Despite his absence, the Brazilian centre-back is expected to recover in time.
Riccardo Calafiori was substituted during Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Newcastle but has since returned to training, showing positive signs of recovery.

Jurrien Timber, recovering from ankle surgery in May, did not feature in any of the tour matches but has been steadily progressing in his rehabilitation.
With the Premier League season opener approaching, the return of these defensive stalwarts could be crucial. Their presence would not only bolster Arsenal’s backline but also offer tactical flexibility as Arteta looks to build momentum early in the campaign.
