Arsenal’s pursuit of Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori has been met with a roadblock. While Calafiori, impressive at Euro 2024, seems keen on the move, negotiations with Bologna have stalled.
The primary issue is Arsenal’s offer. Bologna wants £42 million for Calafiori, but the Gunners’ current bid sits at £8 million below that valuation. Additionally, a complication arose regarding a sell-on fee owed to Calafiori’s former club, Basel.
There’s a new twist to the story, as reported by The Times, with the news of Polish defender Jakub Kiwior being part of the deal. Arsenal proposed the inclusion of Kiwior as makeweight to sweeten the deal for Bologna. However, it seems that Kiwior, who played for Spezia in Italy, isn’t too keen on joining Bologna. While he’s considering a return to Serie A, it looks like he’s more interested in a move to AC Milan instead.
With Arsenal’s pre-season tour looming, it remains to be seen if either club will budge on their stances to get this transfer across the line.
