Arsenal Women edge Brighton 1–0 in the WSL after Marisa Olislagers’ own goal ends a frustrating run for Renèe Sleger side to seal the Victory.

Arsenal Women returned to winning ways in the WSL with a narrow 1–0 victory over Brighton, ending their four-game winless run. The breakthrough came early as Marisa Olislagers’ own goal from an Olivia Smith cross proved decisive at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners started brightly, pressing high and dictating possession from the first whistle. Their intensity paid off in the 15th minute when Olivia Smith’s driven cross deflected off Brighton defender Marisa Olislagers and looped past goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie to give Arsenal the lead.

Despite their early advantage, Arsenal failed to capitalize further. Both Caitlin Foord and Stina Blackstenius came close to doubling the score, with Blackstenius striking the crossbar in the second half.

Van Domselaar Shines in Goal

While the attack faltered, Daphne van Domselaar produced a stellar display between the posts. Under pressure after a costly error against Lyon in the Champions League, the Dutch goalkeeper responded with composure and crucial saves to deny Fran Kirby, Kiko Seike, and Carla Camacho.

Her performance was a turning point, restoring confidence in Arsenal’s defensive setup and ensuring their narrow lead remained intact.

Arsenal’s midfield struggled for rhythm and penetration, often slowing transitions.

Brighton’s compact setup frustrated the Gunners and limited clear chances.

Olislagers’ own goal reflected the early pressure Arsenal imposed on the visitors.

What the Result Means

This Arsenal Women WSL win brings much-needed relief for Renèe Sleger’s side and keeps them within reach of the league’s top contenders. It also ends a disappointing spell that saw Arsenal drop vital points in recent weeks.

Brighton, meanwhile, will feel hard done by after a spirited display and several near-misses in the closing stages.

Renèe Sleger will take heart from the clean sheet and Van Domselaar’s response but knows his side must rediscover their attacking sharpness to sustain momentum heading into tougher fixtures.
