Arsenal reportedly turned down a chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Asensio in the final hours of the summer transfer window. Despite being offered the Spanish winger, the Gunners chose not to pursue the deal, leaving Asensio to remain with the French champions.

While the transfer deadline was approaching, Arsenal were actively seeking reinforcements to bolster their squad. The club eventually secured a loan deal for Raheem Sterling from Chelsea, who joined on a reduced wage package, with Arsenal covering less than half of his salary. However, reports indicate that Arsenal was also presented with the opportunity to sign Asensio in a last-minute move before the 11 p.m. deadline.

Marco Asensio, who has made a strong start to the season with PSG, registering a goal and an assist in three appearances, was reportedly available for transfer. PSG’s head coach, Luis Enrique, was willing to sanction Asensio’s departure as part of his plans to reshape the squad. Despite Asensio’s promising form, Arsenal opted against entering negotiations, passing on the opportunity to bring the 28-year-old to the Premier League for the first time in his career.

Arsenal’s decision to focus on securing Sterling instead of Asensio illustrates their strategic approach to the transfer market this summer. The North London club decided to prioritize a player with Premier League experience and a potentially lower financial commitment.
